Great video! This works for the Volvo S40/V50 as well. Others remove the wheel axle bolt. I like that you didn't have to remove it.
Thank you for the feedback! We are glad that our tutorial was useful for you. Best regards, Autodoc.
Great video. Seeing as he has the replacement part in his hand, it wasn't ordered from Autodoc.
One of the best car repair videos I've seen. A little less talk, a lot more action. Perfect man's video. However, let's be real here gentlemen... if you live in any of the winter-road salt-ridden areas of the country, those last bolts may not come off that easy. I tried an impact wrench with supposedly 1000+ ft. lbs. of reverse torque and that last bolt would not budge on a 2002 Focus. Ended up using two 24 in. breaker bars to break it loose. One on top, tied to other parts to keep it from turning, and one on bottom with an additional 2 ft. pipe along with all the strength I could muster. Otherwise you may end up having to grind them off with a high-speed grinder.
Thank you for the feedback! We are glad that our tutorial was helpful for you. Best regards, Autodoc.
i know Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a trick to log back into an instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me
@Jeremiah Deangelo instablaster :)
@Cain Roberto I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Cain Roberto It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out :D
Just changed both of mine. That you so much autodoc saved me over £150 on labour. Only thing I could find was hard to do was the tightness of the bolts.
And regarding tracking rod I did move it had to because it is really hard to get the wishbone back into place.
Thank you for your feedback! We are very happy that our video was helpful for you. Regarding the bolts , we recommend that you use a special spray for thread joints, so that you could easier unscrew the car part. Best regards, Autodoc.
Very easy to follow. Interesting to see if I can do it in 9 minutes!. Funnily enough last time garage did this they quoted over an hours labour
Thank you for your comment!
In our videos, we try to show only the main points of the substitution, on average, such substitution takes 1: 20-1: 30.
Best Regards,
Autodoc team

Goodbye Haynes manual and hello Autodoc! By far, this has to be the best video tutorial for performing mechanical work on a car! The attention to detail is second to none. Sincerely, a great job. Just one question...what is the official name of that 'special puller' so that I can look to buy one?
Thank you for the feedback! You can ask in a store of equipment for Service stations, they should understand if you will say "Remover of ball mounters".
Great vid. Did mine today. However mine didnt come off as easy as yours lol. But i got there. Cheers
Thank you for your feedback. We are happy you follow us and we will be happy to assist you with any questions concerning the spare parts.Best regards,Autodoc!
Tightening torque specs would be good. I Love this music
Thank you for the feedback! All torque specs are indicated in the technical documentation on the vehicle maintenance, you can find them out at the official car dealer. Best regards, Autodoc.
spot on
Thank you for the feedback! We hope that our tutorial was helpful for you. Stay tuned and follow our latest updates. Best regards, Autodoc.
I've got the same car but at 3.30 on the front wishbone bolt he's got a clear view, I don't, there's a pulley in front of mine and had to loosen the cover to get the bolt out....and only just cleared it. It'll be bloody tricky getting it back in with the new arm on.
Thank you for the feedback! We are glad that our tutorial was helpful for you. Your opinion and remarks are very important for us. We will take them into consideration for our next tutorial. Best regards, Autodoc.
You don’t need to disconnect the track rod end.
A garage failed my MOT today and was going to charge me 3 hours labor for both sides! After watching this, I think not!
Unfortunately, your car may be structurally different from ours and the replacement procedure will be completely different. Therefore, complete information can be found in the service or technical documentation for the repair of your car.
i am changing both my control arms ,I notest the ball joint nut in this video is a 17 mm spanner ...mine is a 22 mm spanner ?
Great tutorials these, but i would have certainly cleaned up those threads from rust before undoing and putting back in. the rust on top of that track rod end thread before you undid it made that nut hard to come off, even with the air gun. nice demo tho. cheers.
Thank you for your comment.
You are absolutely right, it is always worth cleaning the rust of a thread, and lubricating it before tightening it.
Best Regards,
Autodoc team.
How much you pushed that arm up before tightening that front bush?
Will I need to get the tracking done after replacing these lower arms? Thanks
These pats have no adjustability for this vehicle, so if everything's to (or at least near to) OEM spec, you shouldn't need to if you didn't muck about with the tie rod.
How about repairing a cluster
Good video good quality music
Good one! Stahlwille tools used for the repairs?
are Stahlwille...))
Thank you for the feedback! Best regards, Autodoc.
I have the 2008 focus 1.8tdci are my ball joints 18mm or 21mm??
It can only be determined by the Vin code.
Anything on a 2012 Focus?
Thank you for the feedback! At the moment there is no a video with the car mentioned. Please, follow our latest updates and soon such video may be published. Best regards, Autodoc.
Just done this on may car. It is much harder than the video shows, especially if you have rusty bolts to contend with. Also on my car (2.0 Titanium petrol) you need to remove the cover on the aircon pump otherwise you cannot get the front bolt out from the driver side arm. Also the Undertray needs to come off first, and those rear bolts can be a PITA to line up.
Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate your remarks. Best regards, Autodoc.
How did you line up the two rear vertical bolts? I cant seem to get them in.
What tools were required for the titanium focus. I need to replace both the front ones. I have the 2012 model
Taking off the the wiper arm
Can you please give me link of the joint puller tool from AUTODOC website?
Thank you for your comment!
Unfortunately, we do not have this information.
Stay tuned with us.
just a quick question, why do you tighten the bolt then jack it up then tighten again.
Thank you for the feedback! This video is considered to be an informative one, and it is approximate. Best regards, Autodoc.
Some of the fasteners are supposed to be tightened with the suspension under load with the vehicle sitting on the ground (aka “curb height”).
mine is a 2006 mk 2.....assembled in philipines plant...is my cone on the control arm ...18.mm or 21 mm...cone head .... i need to know as im buying the spare part
Thank you for your comment! We highly recommend that you contact our Customer Support agents and you will get an advice on which car pats you need to obtain. We look forward to hearing from you! Best regards, Autodoc Team!
is possible to perform this job without air tools?
Thank you for the feedback! Of course, any wrench is suitable, the air tool just speeds up the process. Best Regards.
At 2:02 the spanner is a 21mm, not a 17mm. i was replacing mine and i only had 17mm spanner and i had to put everything back together to drive and buy a 21mm. by the way, it would be nice if you did videos on Volvo S40/V50/c30/c70
Thank you for the feedback! We are glad that our tutorial was helpful for you. Your opinion and remarks are very important for us. We will take them into consideration for our next tutorial. We are currently working on creating a wider range of tutorials including the car you mentioned. Stay tuned and follow our latest updates. Best regards, Autodoc.
There are x2 variants for the Focus depending on year of manufacture (I believe) with one being 18mm and the other 21mm hence why you may have different to the video.
Most of the Volvo's of this particular generation are mechanically identical to the equivalent Ford and seeing as Ford's are far more common in most European countries I suspect that it makes more sense to feature more Ford tutorials over Volvo ones. As mentioned the issue you had with the ball joint sizing difference isn't a Ford versus Volvo issue, it's because certain Focus/S40/V50 etc models came with the small ball joint size and other came with the larger 21mm size, I think it depended on which engine was fitted.
always easier when you have a lift
Thank you for your feedback! We are completely agree with you, that using the lift makes it easier to replace the car parts and it saves time. The main thing is safety regulations. Best regards, Autodoc.
where do i buy the "special puller"?
Ball joint splitter, available from any motoring store or Ebay
Thank you for the feedback! All special gear can be purchased in a special shop. Best regards, Autodoc.
hi, where can i but the special tool?
We highly recommend that you contact our Customer Support agents and you will get advice on which car parts you need to obtain.
AUTODOC
Any torque specs for the bolts?
You can find this information in the vehicle's repair documentation.
You can find this information in the vehicle's repair documentation.
After replacing the suspension arms the wheel alignment should be done aswell.
Thank you for your feedback!
We appreciate your attention to the details.
You are right and it is recommended to adjust the position of the wheels after replacement of the suspension arms.
Stay home and stay tuned with us!
Best regards,
Autodoc Team!
Great. I just asked if I would need to get tracking done after. Thank you for the answer.
At no point did you torque any of the bolts/nuts. A windy guns ok but how do you know there tight enough or even over tight.
Thank you for your feedback! You are absolutely right. One should use a torque wrench and the specified tightening moments. But this video is only informative and is not a tutorial on how to repair a car. Best regards, Autodoc.
I can't figure out why was the tie rod disconnected?
The tie rod was detached for ease of operation so that the wheel journal could move without any problem.
AUTODOC
What is a removal tool number?
Thank you for the feedback! What exactly tool do you mean? Best Regards, Autodoc
Do you mean the Ball joint splitter, if so, a common and relatively inexpensive piece of equipment available from motorist stores or Ebay.
I'd have to give up at 00:50 until I'd found the key socket for the security nut holding the alloys on.... hey ho...
Two of those bolts are single use.
Don't need to touch your tracking rod
Track rod end, but yes I agree. It makes it slightly easier to move the hub from side to side but you are likely to damaged the ball joint seal.
Even worse he uses a ball joint splitter designed to tear the rubber boot?
Does this guy EVER us a torque wrench ? FYI Always use the ring end of a spanner. Broken knuckles really hurts apparently. Nice clear vid though.
Thank you for the feedback! Your opinion and remarks are very important for us. We will take them into consideration for our next tutorial. All torque specs are indicated in the technical documentation on the vehicle maintenance, you can find them out at the official car dealer. Best regards, Autodoc.
They dont need to torque setting are for wimps just tighen everthing up with an impact wrench 😂
L O L 😂
doesn't tell how high the wishbone is (jacked up) positioned befor tightening the long bolt....oooops
Raised to the working position of the suspension.
Why you don' t use a torque wrench ? . It' s wrong, people don't knows it need. Dangerous !!!
Thank you for your comment.
You are right, we have already added this information in the new videos.
Best Regards,
Autodoc team
